Local Area Network Configuration for ZMODO DVR

Here are the instructions on how to configure a Zmodo DVR with the remote viewer software that comes with all DVR's. This should work with all windows based machines. Any questions please contact Zmodo Direct at the link below for support.

Open your command prompt by pressing the Windows keyboard
button and R at the same time. Type in cmd in the run field and press enter.
In the new window that comes up, type in ipconfig. Press
Enter.
Look for the IPv4 address and default gateway addresses.
Write them down, because you will need these for the next step.
The next step involves the DVR. Bring up the Main Menu on
the DVR, and then go to the Networking Section.
Next, input the IPv4 address into the IP Address section on
the Network Menu, but change the last three digits of the IP address to a larger
number such as 232. (For example, the IP address will change from 172.016.004.1
to 172.016.004.232)  This is now the DVR’s local IP address.
Next, type the default gateway address into both the
Default Gateway section and the DNS section. Click on Apply to save these
settings, and then reboot the DVR.  Rebooting the DVR guarantees that the
settings are saved.
The next step involves the computer again.  Open Internet
Explorer as Administrator.
How to Configure ActiveX
At this time, you will need to prompt the necessary ActiveX
controls before you can login to the DVR online.
On the Internet Explorer toolbar, click on ‘Tools,’ then
select ‘Internet Options.’
Once you are in the Internet Options menu, click on the
Security tab.
From the Security tab, click on ‘Custom Level…’
After clicking on ‘Custom Level,’ you will see a long list
of options that you can set to either ‘Enable, Disable, or Prompt.’
Scroll down until you see the ActiveX Controls.  Set the
following three options to Prompt:
                *Download signed ActiveX controls
                *Download unsigned ActiveX controls
*Initialize and script ActiveX controls not
marked as safe for scripting
Click OK, then exit the Security Settings menu.  You are
ready to login to the DVR’s local IP address!
Type the DVR’s local IP address into the internet browser,
then click Enter.  Include “http://” before typing the address.  For example,
you would type “http://172.016.004.232” into the internet browser.
After typing the IP address into the internet browser, you
will see a pop-up bar. Select the option to Run ActiveX Control.
A Security Warning pop-up will appear.  Select ‘Install’ to
run ActiveX.
*Once you complete the ActiveX configuration once on a
computer, you should not need to complete these steps ever again unless you
update your Internet Explorer to a new version, or unless you reset Internet
Explorer back to default settings.
The first time you login, you will need to enter ‘admin’
into the Username field.  The password field will remain empty.
Check ‘Open all Channels Preview’
Click ‘Login.’  You should now see your live camera images
and DVR menu options!
